Two young men charged in the murder of a Hamilton teen last year are circling next Thursday as their next date in court.
Joseph Daniel Nicholson, now 21, and Matthew John Massey, now 20, face second-degree murder charges in the death of Joey Tanner, 16. Their case is going to pre-trial in Bradford court on April 17.
The youngster and an Alliston man were involved in a fight with a group of other young men outside a Strabane Street apartment complex on the morning of June 16, a struggle in which Tanner and Jeremy Rogers, now 19, were stabbed.
They were then loaded onto a stolen truck and driven to a location outside Duckworth Plaza, where they were left on the street. Both victims were taken to RVH, where Tanner died of his wounds that afternoon.
Rogers spent much of the following week in hospital, but recovered.
Tanner’s death, Barrie’s second of three murders in 2007, sparked an outpouring of grief among his friends and cyber-friends on Facebook. Rumours of Tanner’s involvement in gangs were quickly dispelled.
Nicholson and Massey were arrested that night on Toronto Street.
